Deep in the wilds of Alaska, each season three new teams face extreme challenges building off the grid in some of the most ruthless wilderness Earth has to offer. Follow courageous men and women building exceptional lodges through unrelenting weather and deadlines. From transporting their build materials using snowmobiles, helicopters, boats, and float planes to constructing their cabins from foundation to completion, join the builders through successes and defeats, as they take on the mammoth challenge of building in stunning but perilous landscapes. With only a few short months in the Alaskan build season to complete their cabin before the weather turns treacherous, crews work around the clock to finish on time and on budget. The builders must innovate solutions for problems that most people in the lower 48 wouldn’t even consider from creating their own sources of electricity to finding reliable fresh water for survival. With no roads, stores, or services nearby, the teams adapt, improvise, and preserver to the finish. There’s building -- and then there’s building in Alaska.

Paige Drobny and Cody Strathe are always living the most adventurous, busy lives they can. In between Paige’s profession as a marine biologist and Cody’s career as an archeologist and dog sled builder, they are both professional dog mushers. They were on top of the pack in both the 2019 Iditarod and 2019 Yukon Quest, and now they need a place to train their 50 Alaskan huskies for future races. With their own slice of Alaskan heaven southeast of Cantwell, Paige and Cody are racing to build a two-story log cabin before the winter mushing training season takes over.
Teresa and Mike Oldenkamp are empty nesters who love the outdoors. Hunting, fishing, snow machining, and kayaking -- they do it all. Surrounded by untamed wilderness, Alaska is their endless playground. The two commit to camping in an RV while they build far from civilization, outside of Trapper Creek. In the style of Teresa’s mid-western heritage, Mike and Teresa are building a grain bin style, circular two-story cabin, which is an extraordinary challenge for these non-professional builders.
Despite their love of hunting and tent camping, California natives Kathleen and Mike Kondus are ready to make their time in the outdoors a lot more comfortable. They’re ready to trade the harsh elements of tent camping for a cabin all of their own. Mike's had a dream since he was nine years old to build a log cabin, and he’s finally moved to Alaska with Kathleen where his dream can come true. They’re building a family vacation home in the wilderness of the White Mountain range. Their build site is so remote, it’s a 2-hour one-way ATV ride from the nearest trailhead, so they and their team are camping on site for three weeks in hopes of banging out a brilliant cabin before winter hits.
